For music fans, this is a terrific way to see a rotating mix of some of the Bay Areas greatest jazz musicians.  For students, it's a wonderful opportunity to see music being created in a very organic manner, experiencing the fun of creating jazz.   For musicians, it's an amazing opportunity to network with other musicians in the Bay Area. If you're a musician (all ages welcome!), bring your instrument.  If you're a music fan, bring your ears!... located at 3192 Adeline Street in Berkeley, a half block southwest of the Ashby BART.  (Please note there is an incorrect Adeline Street in Oakland.)"

They have a respect for the artists that you don't always find in many of the other jazz clubs. They try to present the artists in the best possible light - and I have to respect that." - Oscar Peterson "Yoshi's at Jack London Square is located at 510 Embarcadero West between Washington and Clay Streets around the corner from the Jack London Square Cinema Complex on Washington. Yoshi's is on the ground floor on the front side of the seven-story parking structure."

Historic Music Venues

Great American Music Hall "...San Francisco's oldest and grandest nightclub, the Great American Music Hall carries guests back to an earlier, more elegant era, with its ornate balconies, soaring marble columns and elaborate ceiling frescoes. Long-time customers and newcomers alike feel at home in the 5,000-square-foot concert hall that symbolized renewal and optimism when it opened in 1907. Today, a professional sound and lighting system, two full bars, a modern kitchen and a spacious oak dance floor help to blend contemporary quality with turn-of-the-century graciousness...." Dinner, sandwiches and appetizers are available at all shows. Show tickets and dinner+show prices are very reasonable.

Coffee and Jazz

Caffe Trieste

"... Our historic caffe location at 601 Vallejo Street was the first espresso coffee house established on the West Coast (1956). It has become famous across the world for its combination of essences: Old Italy, Bohemian poets, art and music, and excellent Espresso.

We are, thus, the Espresso Pioneers of the West Coast. The caffe has served as a movie set for many feature films and has been the subject of many documentaries across the globe. The walls are adorned with pictures of many famous celebrities who have visited the caffe (some are regular customers) as well as of the hundreds of musical events the various members of the Giotta family have participated in.

The menu includes Italian pastries, muffins, bagels, sandwiches, salads, light fare, pizza and focaccia, all served in a family atmosphere. Wine and beer are served. The Giotta Family's famous Saturday afternoon concert takes place each week (go to Our Music button for more information)....

Our newest location in Berkley serves up live Operatic, Jazz, and other styles of music on Sunday afternoons, along with a broader version of our North Beach menu, including Pizzette, Gelato, and other items. Our Sausalito location features live music on weekend evenings and the largest of Trieste menus. No cover charge. Call for schedule.

"...The Caffe Trieste Saturday Concert is the longest-running show in the City of San Francisco. It has evolved from a small, family show with guitar and mandolin ensemble into an Italian-flavored version of the Lawrence Welk show (one of the Giotta Family's favorite television indulgences from the 1950's through the 1970's). Many new singers have joined the Trieste Musical Family in the last few years.  Wonderful local singers such as Bruce Winslow, Steve Randolph, Irving Mok and Alfredo Tollis bring new facets of jazz, show tunes, ballads, and vaudeville, as well as songs by Piaf, Weill, and Dean Martin to the Trieste repertoire...."

Farley's Cafe "Community in a Cup" Offers Saturday afternoon jazz concerts at 3. Also music some Wednesdays at 7. "...Farley’s goal is to create a focal point for the community where everyone is comfortable and feels welcome. By creating a personable place, a human place, Farley’s provides an arena for people to interact with one another. The character of Farley’s mirrors the uniqueness of the people and allows for a genuine and distinctive experience for everyone...." SF Potrero Hill location.
