How to Get Free Admission to Festivals and Conventions... by Getting Involved

It takes many people working in various capacities to put on a festival. In many cases, much of this work is done by volunteers. One of the best ways to enjoy a festival is from the inside out... by offering your services in some capacity... in exchange for free admission and other perks.

Here are some festivals who active seek volunteers:

From Afro/Cuban to Bulgarian Harmonies, Latin to Bluegrass, Scottish fiddle tunes to Rock & Roll, Jumpin' Jazz to Gypsy, Folk to New Acoustic, Mexican to Russian Folk, Swing Jazz to Gospel, India's Rhythms to the newest Celtic incarnations, the California WorldFest is the home of incredible music....Most volunteer positions require a 4-hour shift for 3 days of the festival (12 hours total), or a full day doing setup or teardown, in exchange for a full festival pass and a Staff T-shirt."

Harmony Festival (Sonoma County) "...With five stages of continuous music, the Harmony Festival is well-known for its live music and entertainment for the whole family. WonderCon

" These conventions don't run themselves -- they need people power. By volunteering to be a part of the team, you can help put on a sensational event. Plus, there are some awesome perks. For example, volunteers who complete a shift earn a free pass to WonderCon, which means more money in your pocket that can be spent on comics. Or lunch. Or both."

"... don't have to commit to the whole weekend -- you can volunteer one day at a time -- and one shift is only 2-3 hours. After that, you're free to do whatever you want. Those hearty individuals who do work all three days will have a nice little surprise waiting for them on Sunday. What is it? Well, if we told you we'd have to kill you, and then you wouldn't be any good to WonderCon, now would you? Suffice it to say that it'll be a small thank you from CCI."

They Call San Francisco Home

Chinese Clown Cabaret "...is a collection of eclectic musical acts starring Jane Chen and her real-life mother, Tair Chen. Together, the duo creates a world of goofiness, spontaneity, and emotional depth, as they explore what a relationship between mother and daughter could really be about. In this year's show — What's a Chinese clown to do!? Her mom just wants her to practice the ukulele, but she's growing up, falling in love, and trying to have fun! Combining opera, Chinese folk songs, catchy pop tunes, and Jane's signature quirky ditties, the Chinese Clown Cabaret sings, dances, and clowns its way through the roller-coaster ride of adolescent clown life and growing up caught between two cultures. The Chinese Clown Cabaret is, according to Audience Reviews, 'one of those rare shows that helps you feel how neat it is just to be alive.'..."

Galumpha "... Combining stunning acrobatics, striking visual effects, physical comedy and inventive choreography, Galumpha brings to life a world of imagination, beauty, muscle and merriment. The three performer... have created a sensory feast of images ranging from the ridiculous to the sublime, drawn together into a seamless whole, consistently bringing audiences to their feet. Galumpha is a triumphant mix of art and entertainment... " .
