San Francisco Bay Area Art Walks, Art Gallery Receptions and Artists Open Studio Tours are a Great Way to Meet Artists and Other Art Aficonados...

The Bay Area, with its great natural beauty and many cultural advantages, has attracted thousands of very talented artists and artisans. Gallery walks, art gallery receptions and the dozen artists open studio tours within an easy drive of San Francisco, provide a wonderful way to meet new artists -- either in their galleries or in their studios -- to see their latest work, and to meet and have a glass of wine with fellow art lovers.

Here are links to just some of the many Bay Area art galleries, art walks and artists studio tours>

San Francisco Bay Area Gallery Walks

Palo Alto First Friday Art Walk First Friday of every month, 6 to 9 p.m. "... Community members who participate in the event enjoy an evening of entertainment, often with an educational component mixed in.  Some of the arts groups use this as an opportunity to raise awareness of the art or artists whose work is on display.  The Pacific Art League for example, typically ties in programs to First Friday events, where participants have the chance to meet the artist and learn more about the work...."

Pacific Art League, Sponsor of the Palo Alto Art Walk, is seeking volunteers for a wide variety of duties . This is a great way to meet fellow art aficionados and make new friends.

Santa Cruz Art Scene

Santa Cruz First Friday Art Walk "... The Santa Cruz Institute of Contemporary Arts hosts the  FIRST FRIDAY GALLERY WALK the first Friday of every month. Come and enjoy the self guided tour of Santa Cruz's many galleries and downtown art venues. While enjoying the work of our many local artists and artisans visit some of the many cafes and restaurants in downtown. Santa Cruz is quickly growing as an art center in the Bay Area. Enjoy a beautiful Friday this year taking in the work of the many talented Artists that live and work in Santa Cruz...." List of participating galleries and venues. Guided walks begin at 5 p.m. at The Attic.

Felix Kulpa Gallery Review "...As an added bonus to Friday’s festivities, Schoen has arranged for five musicians to play his guitars, all together, in an impromptu jam session. Bob Hofmann, the artist behind “Pyrocussion” will accompany the guitars with his flame-throwing drum set, which produces as much an effect on the eyes and the body as it does the ears. With every tap of a drumstick on a horizontal wire, a small amount of propane gas is released out the top of one of up to eight metal tubes. The gas, lit by a sparker, erupts into a small fireball in accordance with how long the wire is depressed. When two drummers are let loose behind this contraption, the result is a gleeful fusion of industrial-themed fire play and music. Sit close enough to a performance, and you will not only hear and see it, but also feel the rhythmic heat blasts in tandem with the concussion of the blasts against your body. Hofmann has been giving monthly pyrocussion performances at the gallery on every first Friday since he first created the pieces, and is currently looking into producing a full Vegas-style show featuring his instruments. Unlike most galleries that must rely on window displays, street locale or reputation to lure in the casual art fan, Felix Kulpa is recognizable to most Santa Cruz residents because of its fantastical outdoor entry. From Elm Street, one need only spare a casual glance to see a lawn full of giant metal dragons, a phone booth water fountain, a steel armadillo, and an assortment of otherworldly sculptures that tease the childhood make-believe imagination out of the mind. Walking into the garden of sculptures is like entering a C.S. Lewis or J.K Rowling story, where you half expect a band of little munchkins to appear from around the corner. What many may fail to realize, however, is that there is still a gallery full of local art waiting inside...."

Art 21 Openings Calendar (Palo Alto)

Caffe Pergolesi (Santa Cruz) "...Santa Cruz is known for it's leading edge art scene and a place cultivating the forefront of the art movement.  Being few art galleries in Santa Cruz, many good artists are unable to display their works locally.  At Caffe Pergolesi, we decided to host a venue where local street artists and art majors from UC Santa Cruz could have a place to show their art.
Each month we feature a new artist and display their work in each of the four rooms we have at the cafe.  Each artist displays a short biography, contact information and their story on art.  In addition, each artist labels the art work with the name and price, if for sale, of each piece displayed.  New artists hang their art work the 15th of each month...."

City Art Gallery "...Almost 200 local artists are members of City Art Cooperative Gallery.... Member artists belong to CITY ART because it's a cooperative gallery, owned and operated by local artists. They like the idea of making their artwork accessible and affordable to hundreds of potential art buyers each week. In addition to selling their art, they understand the importance of belonging to a network of peers who promote and support their creativity.... We do not insist on exclusive contracts with our artists, and we show a wide range of artistic mediums and styles."
